My family and I foster kittens for a local animal shelter. Whenever they have kittens that need bottle feeding, they call me because they don't have the manpower to feed little ones around the clock. We have had them as young as a day old. I have photographed the kittens over the years and decided it would be fun to make an opposite book using the images. I sat down to brainstorm pairs of opposites and came up with so many that it ended up being 4 books! The books are handmade so the covers will vary.

As I was dealing with severe depression, I was very aware of its effects on my children. When I was assigned a project that would incorporate text with photography, I thought long and hard about the message I wanted to share with them. This piece summarizes what I learned about survival. The hands in the piece are my childrens'.

The original images are on display at Triangle Family Services here in Raleigh. This work is available as an artist book and as a poster.

In 2005, a flamenco teacher suggested that I consider writing a book about flamenco. I love the gypsy culture so this idea had a lot of appeal for me. I spent two and a half years researching flamenco, reading authors such as D. E. Pohren, Teodoro Morca, Jan Yoors, James Woodall, Washington Irving, Frederico Garcia Lorca, James Michener, Ernest Hemingway, and contempoary author/photographer, Ken Haas.

In 2oo7, my daughter and I went to Spain. A friend of hers was living in Seville, studying flamenco. It was the perfect time for this trip. We spent two and a half weeks traveling through Andalucia, Barcelona, and Madrid collecting photographs and experiencing as much of the culture as possible. I am creating a book based on my travel journal, hand colored photographs, and the research I have gathered. I hope to have the project finished early in 2011.
